UX Designer

User Research,
End to end UX/UI design

Objective
Redesign a campus app that meets the requirements of students. While many technological tools produced by the Public sector make the users feel annoyed, we apply user-centered design principles and doing some contextual inquiry to find the user scenarios.
Outcome
Over 29,000 users enrolled and download the APP, while it was around 1000 users with the initial version. We also received lots of positive feedbacks from users.
Deliverables
The project is the 1st student-made APP in NCKU, we need to negotiate with the Public -Sector what goal the students want to achieve. (ex. online student card, parsing the people amount in 4 main students study spaces and present it by gamification way...)
Also, this is our first try building a progressive web app(PWA) solution to reduce the mobile storage for the users, which boost the download rate.
Challenge
As a UX/UI designer in this project, I conducted 15 in-depth user interview to define the problems , executed the usability test for the iterations, and worked closely with PM and three engineers. I was responsible for the end-to-end UX and UI design, from defining the problem, delivering the final visual artifact.

Design Process

01 Understand the problems
02 Analysis the users' problems
03 Ideate a solution
04 Prototype and share iteration with the Devs

- Review the past version - Understand the users by interviews and questionnaire to obtain the pain points data-base.

To ensure the end-to-end experience is good, we create a User Journey Map and use the Job to be done method.

Ideate a solution and discuss with stakeholders with a prototype

- Prototyping in Adobe XD
- Share design files with Zeplin.

Understand the problems

Review the past version

NCKU prepared a good app for students, why there were little people downloaded and installed it?

Understand the user: Interview & Questionnaire

We tried to understand the users with interviews and questionnaire, which can give us a quick view about users' pain points. And then we built a pain points pool, which could be selected to the next iterations.
And we selected some interesting user story below:

Understand the user: Observation

We noticed there were some phenomenon in the NCKU, and we thought these problems could also be solve in our app.

Ideate the solution

Insights about why we choose PWA ( Progressive Web APP ) as our platform.
There is a research conducted by Google which has found that:
- PWAs deliver two to four times faster page speeds, ensuring the hard-earned users stay engaged and convert.
- The customers typically see a 20% revenue boost with a PWA, so every minute you don’t have a PWA is a minute spent with 20% less revenue on your busiest customer touchpoint.
As an example, a retailer with $20 million in annual e-commerce revenue could lose $1.4 million by waiting a month to offer a PWA, and another $6.8 million by waiting six months.
Read The Original Articles in Google:   Why wait? A Progressive Web App can drive mobile revenue right now.
Outcome
1. There are 29,000 users enrolled and download this app until now, while there were less than 1000 users initially.
2. While the 1st launched in 2019, it reached over 21,000 enrolled and download this app in two months.
3. We built the user experience research practices in Public Sector:
Allowing feedback channel, and problems pool for iterations in the future.
